Are you in the blind stage?!

“I’ve been doing quite good. My presentations are going well, and I’m confident on stage.” That sounds like great news, right?

It is. However, if that over time leads you to prepare less, rehearse less, or care less, then you might be in the Blind Stage”.


When everything is going well, we rarely stop to observe things or ask, “What could be better?”. We could even stop analyzing things or working hard for them. And we settle down as if that is the most of what we can achieve in that area.

We see many people seek training or coaching to perform on their challenges, but we rarely see people seeking support to help them work better on their strengths. I believe working more on your strength elements and key potentials will help you reach far faster than just focusing on your challenges. That's one of the techniques I use with my clients to achieve quick wins.


Another point to address here is that usually when there’s a certain challenge we aim to handle, once we do so, we become blind-sighted about what else needs more work.

For example, I have witnessed many people who think that once they become less anxious about their speaking opportunities then their speeches will become great! And in many cases, those individuals stop working on their public speaking skills once they become more comfortable on stage. And that’s also another blind stage.

Even though stress is a barrier we cannot disregard, it's not the only barrier to delivering influential presentations, nor is it your most dangerous barrier.


Does that mean we can never be satisfied?

Of course not. There’s a difference between being satisfied and still wanting to develop, and between being satisfied and settling down. I don’t believe there’s a single skill that will keep shining without continuous development and proper practice.


Then what can we do here? 

Since 2024 is knocking on the doors, while setting your new year plan, consider the below:


1) Try to analyze your previous year's successes as much as you analyze your challenges.

2) Set a plan to maximize your strengths parallel to the plan of working on your challenges.

3) In case you can’t see your next step or how can you do better in the areas you’re good at, seek support. If we can't see the next step of the ladder, that doesn't mean we reached the top; it means we don't know enough.

4) Celebrate both your successes and trials for success. We even learn from the latter more and that means we were trying which is a step forward in itself.


Be aware of the blind stage; it's satisfactory but DANGEROUS.
